Dear Editor,

I have taken keen notice of Education Minister Ruel Reid's promise to provide scholarships to those who wish to end criminal behaviour.

This is a great visionary idea which could reap tremendous benefit for those youths who are being marginalised and are considered to be prime candidates for recidivism. Many of these youths are talented and just want to have some form of support from governmental agencies which can shelter them from wayward lifestyles.

This is an excellent crime -fighting strategy and could provide a much brighter future for many hardened criminals. We need corporate Jamaica to come on board and make this public initiative work. The youngsters need adequate guidance to bring them from the precipice of total destruction into a path of hope and prosperity.

We could include some of the basic structures of the Human Employment and Resource Training programme and make many misguided youth into ambassadors for our glorious isle Jamaica.
