Hypocrisy of Holness and the JLP

Dear Editor,

For Andrew Holness or anyone in the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) to label Peter Bunting as “bad mind”, or come out against any kind of statement or comment made by him smacks of hypocrisy and nothing more than partisan politics.

These same voices, including that of Holness, condemning Bunting were either silent or standing by Councillor David Q Brown when he made his racist and derogatory remarks towards a young woman suffering from Crohn's Disease.

Nowhere in Bunting's commentary did he wish death on Nigel Clarke. Nowhere in his commentary did he suggest that Clarke was “genetically inferior”, “too black or ugly”, or that Clarke was trash.

Lest these hypocritical Labourites forget, even the director of communications in the Office of the Prime Minister, Robert Nesta Morgan, made unfavoured remarks.

When even the mother of David Q Brown stated her disappointment at her son's behaviour, not one member of the JLP hierarchy had either the class, character or integrity to do the same.

The JLP's members need to understand that they cannot choose when to apply morality and conscience, and when not to. You either stand for morals and principles or sit down and be silent.

Attacking Bunting for his commentary regarding Clarke is nothing but sick partisan politics and should not be applauded by Jamaicans with any form of decency.

Jamaica is still a democratic country and, try as they might, the JLP cannot be the standard of morality.
