For the past 12 years, the Chromatic sound system has remained consistent, building a strong following on the party scene.

Tonight, the five-member outfit will showcase its skills and much more at the event Appleton Special Chromatic Live at the Mas Camp in Kingston. Joining them will be some of their friends from the entertainment fraternity, including ZJ Chrome, St Ann-based Illusion Sound System, Silent Addy, rapper Bakersteez, and dancehall deejay Popcaan.

Warren “Creep” Lee, founding member of Chromatic, explained the reason for Chromatic Live.

“The Chromatic team felt that it was time for us to showcase ourselves to fans in a unique way, instead of just keep a party that would be considered an 'anniversary'. We decided to deliver a concert vibe,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Formed in 2005 by Lee and Nicholas “Niko” Grant, Chromatic's line-up also includes Doujen “Aries” McKenzie, Junior “JR” Wray, Shaun “Heavy D” Duffus and Shane “Shantonio” Patterson.

He explained what patrons can expect tonight.

“Patrons can expect a show — not just a party, but a well-organised show. We have taken the time to design a set to deliver our craft in a show format for the first time. This event focuses more on production and its elements.”

Chromatic has been the recipient of many awards including multiple wins for Sound System of the Year at the annual Youth View Awards.

Lee explained how the sound has remained consistent and relevant in the marketplace.

“We have maintained our relevance simply because we treat our craft as a job and a lifestyle. We also try to stay one step ahead by using marketing techniques, whether it's doing vlogs, mixtapes, or being ambassadors — anything that involves enhancing the team's presence and staying visible to our audience,” he said.

Questioned on whether Chromatic Live will become an annual calendar event, Lee said: “We gear towards making Chromatic Live a staple event, it's just on us to deliver what we have promised and after that we can only see better for years to come. This is only the beginning.”

Appleton Special has partnered with Chromatic for the inaugural staging of Chromatic Live.

Tamika West, marketing manager, dark spirits, J Wray & Nephew Ltd, explained why the brand decided to be a part of the event.

“Chromatic Sound served as our brand ambassadors last year and, just like Appleton Special, they are the party starters. Chromatic Live was a perfect fit for us. The event will pull the right consumer demographic,” said West.

“At the event, there will be high- energy Appleton Special bars with our classic party cocktails. Early VIP Appleton Special drinkers will also walk away with keep sakes (Appleton Special Tumblers),” she continued.

Appleton Special Chromatic Live kicks off at 10 pm and goes until 4:00 am.
