NEW YORK — Jamaican playwright Karl O'Brian Williams' heartfelt drama, Not About Eve, returns for a one-off show at the New Vibe Lounge in Long Island, New York on May 26.

To be presented as a concert reading, it is part of the New Vibe Lounge's monthly series. Directed by David Heron, Not About Eve is based on the personal challenges of three women, played by Gabrielle C Archer, Marsha-Ann Hay and Fleurette Harris.

Harris plays Agatha, who is mother and grandmother to Katherine (played by Hay) and Kimberly (Archer), respectively. The women live in the same house and their starkly different personalities clash as the anniversary of Katherine's husband's death, approaches.

First launched in Kingston in 2006, Not About Eve is Williams' signature work. It won several Actor Boy Awards, and has played the Roy Arias Studio Theatre in New York, and National Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

In a 2014 interview with the Jamaica Observer, Williams said Not About Eve was inspired by his family.

"Eve was inspired by observing how the women in my family dealt with the loss of their husbands: my mother and grandmother in particular," he said. "The sacrifices made by women to uphold the status quo in the name of family, religious acceptance, and social image preservation fascinate me."

Williams' credits also include the 2017 play Welcome to America.

Not About Eve continues a busy run at the New Vibe Lounge for Heron. He mounted his provocative Against His Will there in February and Easton Lee's The Rope and The Cross in April.
