Scorpions extend lead to 208 runs vs Hurricanes

Friday, January 12, 2018

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica Scorpions spinner Damion Jacobs finished with season's best figures of 7-74 as the regional four-day cricket match against Leeward Islands Hurricanes appears destined for an outcome on Saturday's penultimate day.

At the close on Friday, the Scorpions were 182-7 in their second innings thanks to attacking half centuries from Jermaine Blackwood and left-hander John Campbell, who made 70 and 55, respectively. Jacobs, not out on one, and Derval Green, who is yet to get off the mark, are the Scorpions batsmen set to resume at 10:00 am.

After Jacobs' bowling heroics earlier in the day, which helped to dismiss the Hurricanes for 171 in their first innings, the hosts hold a handy lead of 208 runs with three wickets in hand in what has so far been a low-scoring game.

Scores: Scorpions 197 (59.1 ovs) & 182-7 (46 ovs); Hurricanes 171 (78.3 ovs).

The Hurricanes picked up from their overnight first-innings score of 60-4 in sunny conditions Friday morning.

Former West Indies Under-19 batsman Keacy Carty went on to top-score with 78 against the wily Jacobs.
