Dengue outbreak and drain cleaning

Dear Editor,

I have asked this question time and again: Who is responsible for cleaning the island's drains in our towns, cities, etc?

I asked this question when chikungunya affected the island, and I am now asking the same question as I have seen the same problems existing now with dengue being on a rampage.

I have called the Ministry of Health and the parish councils, and have made complaints, inquiries and even offered suggestions to no avail.

I am no expert, but the drains need to be cleaned, and this will go a long way in helping to manage the vector population.

Citizens are being asked to clean up their homes to help stymie the dengue outbreak, but I have seen drains in Spanish Town and Portmore with stagnant water, and the same is true for other parts of the island which are breeding mosquitoes currently and are potential breeding grounds. What steps have the local authorities taken to deal with these glaring problems?

Mosquitoes migrate; I can be cleaning up my home environment and mosquitoes still come to my home because other areas have not been dealt with.

The Government and its agents must do their part in assisting in this endeavour.
