Dear Editor,

Yesterday, Thursday, January 3, 2019, while approaching Half-Way-Tree (HWT) aboard a Jamaica Urban Transit Company bus I felt the call of nature. By the time I got to the HWT Transport Centre the call rang with greater urgency so I decided to access the lavatory there.

As I approached the facility I dreaded the conditions I would have to face for the brief moments I sought relief.

I noticed an attendant as I walked up to the door. I greeted her, and she responded pleasantly.

As I went in I smelled bleach and disinfectant.

I then noticed that the ground had been freshly wiped.

Then I noticed that the urinals were clean and the bowls may have been recently changed.

The soap dispenser worked.

The pipes at the sinks worked.

My fears had been all for naught.

Thank you, management of the HWT Transport Centre, for seeing to it that all is now well in the restroom area, with attendant to boot.

It is now for John Public to properly utilise these facilities so as to preserve them as long as possible.

It often baffles me how poorly we treat public restroom facilities that must provide refuge in our times of need.

I commend the effort of the company and implore all users to be at their best as they do their do.

Glad Tidings
