How many more deaths of children on our roads?

Dear Editor,

Once more we will have to bury another set of students due to our callous disregard for human life in this country.

This time around it's the ever-recurring decimal, taxi/bus driver transporting the children to schools and driving as if on a race track with no sense of safety for the children.

When will we take the safety of our children seriously?

The children who lost their lives so tragically in that most recent crash on the Elegant Corridor were let down by the people who claim to love them. I am putting the blame for the children's death squarely at the feet of the so-called elected officials; from the prime minister to the minister of education, even the minister of transport. You have all let down the children by failing to introduce a proper and safe school bus system for them.

How long will you politicians continue to pay lip service to the youth? When are you going to ensure that the ordinary Jamaican child is transported safely to and from school in the same way your children are transported in luxury and comfort?

I hope this tragedy will be the impetus for you, politicians, to have a heart and implement stricter guidelines for transporting our children to school.

We cannot continue like this, there must be a vetting process for drivers who transport children, at least pretend as if you care and do something.
