Fairfield International Academy: a long-held dream becomes reality

Some older parents from Montego Bay, and western Jamaica on a whole, saw their much-cherished dream of an international school become reality last week with the historic opening of Fairfield International Academy (FIA) at Reading, east of the fast-growing second city in St James.

In years to come, they will write that the credit belonged to a group of visionary young businessmen and women, some of who experienced the vast benefits of an overseas education and the trauma that was ever present, or both, and are determined to avoid the pitfalls as parents themselves. They are: Madhu and Ranjeet Mahtani; Lisa Lake and Yoni Epstein; Jill and Adam Stewart; Jaime and Mark McConnell; as well as Michele Rollins of Rose Hall fame; as well as Marvin Hall, robotics guru and founder of Halls of Learning. Hall was rendered David Hall in yesterday's Sunday Observer, for which we sincerely apologise. Here are more scenes from last Thursday's ribbon-cutting ceremony at FIA:
