Thursday, October 18, 2018

ROSE HALL, St James — Top selling American gospel and multiple Grammy award-winning singer and minister, Donnie McClurkin brought the house down as hundreds of patrons flocked the Montego Bay Convention Centre on Saturday last for the seventh staging of Come Celebrate Jesus.

McClurkin, no stranger to the shores of Jamaica, and fresh from his tour of Europe and Africa, had the crowd singing in different languages on several occasions as he delivered a splendid set.

Singing many of his popular songs, such as Great is Your Mercy, We Fall Down and I Call You Faithful, McClurkin also delved in a few of his new songs, much to the delight of the appreciative crowd.

Earlier, Ramone Watson and Flavia Beswick set the pace for Chevelle Franklyn, followed by Jabez, whose spirit-filled performance had the crowd on their feet praising and worshipping.

DJ Nicholas had the youngsters rocking, making way for the closing act.

Promoter of the event Donald Brooks, expressed satisfaction at the growth gospel show.

“The show keeps growing every year,” Brooks stressed.

“…I would really like to see it transformed into a weekend event, but I need the Government's help in tapping into the faith-based tourism market.”

He stressed that “the government must put their money where their mouth is, as they want faith-based tourism but are not willing to sponsor.”

“Once we get sponsors willing to come on board, the rest is history,” said Brooks.
