THE first major test for the better horses in training finds expression tomorrow with the running of the St Catherine Cup, an Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and up over the sprinting distance of 5 furlongs (1,100 metres).

Among the seven horses nominated, several are out and out sprinters along with a number of proven old-time campaigners which should add a lot of spice to the event.

The Supreme Racing Guide analyses the seven entering the starting gates in post-position order.

ANOTHER VIGOROUS: (4.b.g – Legal Process Miss Nickels) – Has made a dramatic change in recent times moving seamlessly from a sprinter of note to a horse who can sit and wait off the pace before striking in the straight. The fact that Another Vigorous won at this level on Saturday, December 29, 2018, over seven furlongs speaks volumes of his development. The handicaps plus the distance give Another Vigorous a glorious chance of repeating especially against Another Bullet. When they last met 14 days ago, Another Vigorous won by 1 lengths (seven furlongs) with the allotted weights being Another Vigorous 52.0 kgs and Another Bullet 56.5 kgs. As it turned out Another Bullet carried 52.5 kgs after the claim by the apprentice and Another Vigorous 53.0 kgs to accommodate jockey Dane Nelson. Tomorrow, Another Vigorous carries 55.5 kgs and Another Bullet 57.0, thereby making it almost theoretically impossible for Another Bullet to defeat Another Vigorousat actual running weights but then again anything can happen in racing.

EXHILARATE: ( - Blue Pepsi LodgePurejoy) – After three consecutive victories coming through the ranks, Exhilarate has arrived in Open Allowance. She can only run one way and that is to go in front. Exhilarate is coming along quickly and should once again set off in front and if the others are not mindful, she will run away with this cup.

ANOTHER BULLET: (7.b.h – NasheetWisely Noted) – It is going to be difficult for Another Bulletto win here but he is game as can be and could defy the odds against him.

SECRET TRAVELLER: (5.b.g – Traditional Sea Traveller) – Won on New Year's Day over nine furlongs and 25 yards and should feel a tad uncomfortable against these at 5 furlongs.

CAMPESINO: (9.b.g – CompadreYaella) – Could not manage Another Bullet and Another Vigorous on last over seven furlongs and a reversal of that order is not on the cards.

NUCLEAR FLIGHT: (4.dkb.f – Nuclear WayneCity Flight) – This is the mystery horse in the race. Nuclear Flight has started on seven occasions and has won five times, with four of those wins coming over the five-straight course. This filly is fast and has had quite a few battles with Another Vigorous on her way to Open Allowance. The two have met four times with both locked on two wins apiece. It is going to be very interesting to see how Nuclear Flight performs going around the bend as opposed to coming down the straight. If she handles that situation well, there is every chance of winning.

PRINCESS EMANUELLE: ( – Traditional Explosive Peak) – Took a while to win in Overnight and may need time to catch the pace of Open Allowance company.
