RACE 1-MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT (THREE-YEAR-OLDS ONLY) 1200METRES/6FURLONGS

By virtue of having worked eye-catchingly well and being disqualified from first last February lightly raced Virtuoso came under orders as the overwhelming choice of the punters. Virtuoso finished three parts of a length second but had sprinted into an early lead and looked likely to justify favouritism until chased and worn down in the stretch drive by the more experienced A Seh Soup. There must have been unqualified joy in the A Seh Soup camp after finally breaking her maiden after many, many attempts.

RACE 2-MAIDEN CONDITION (FIVE-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1300METRES/6 1/2FURLONGS

Unraced at five years old Mrs Awesome was surprisingly the most favoured and after being in the front rank to the top of the stretch dropped out of contention badly to finish sixth. Twilight Princess was prominent and always going well went clear at the distance to score easily by five lengths.

RACE 3-OVERNIGHT ALLOWANCE DIV 1 (THREE-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1400METRES/7FURLONGS

Old Braeton led Sotomayor down the backstretch but does not have the class and fell back quickly. Once Sotomayor got to front he showed a glimmer of the form which secured second in the Derby and third in the St Leger of 2017 behind She's A Maneater. The time of 1:25:4 and near four-length victory may be taken as a definite indicator Sotomayor will pay his way in the foreseeable future. Racing fans are now looking forward for Sotomayor, the champion two-year-old of 2016 to push on and reach the top class. Let's hope he does as the Grade One level is in urgent need of more horses.

RACE 4-OVERNIGHT ALLOWANCE DIV II (THREE-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1400METRES/7FURLONGS

Based on previous form and improvement Hilly's Halo was presented with a gift at the weights. Dancing Queen was in front early tracked by Hilly's Halo going easily. In the lead from the top of the home straight Hilly's Halo went clear comfortably but was not allowed to idle and stopped the clock at 1:24.0. In conceding 4.5 kilogrammes and reducing Hilly's Halo advantage to only 2 lengths, Dysfunctional ran one his best races but unfortunately it was only good enough to secure second. We anxiously wait to see how Hilly's Halo will perform in her new class, Open Allowance.

RACE 5-RESTRICTED STAKES (THREE-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1300METRES/6 1/2FURLONGS

Honey Ryda broke very sharply and led My Sister and Outrageous Taj into the upper straight. My Sister could not quicken but Outrageous Taj launched an attack on the front running Honey Ryda and wrenched out a marginal lead 200 metres out. Honey Ryda renewed her bid for the lead with 150 metres to come and she was successful but had to work hard and gamely to prevail by a neck. A strong and well-timed ride by jockey Dick Cardenas on Honey Ryda. With the win on Sunday, Honey Ryda continues to demonstrate admirable progress. A good and defining run by this local bred filly.

RACE 6-RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE V (FIVE-YEAR-OLDS&UP/NW2) 1100METRES/7 1/2FURLONGS

Okahumpka led Unexpected with the rest of the field travelling in a very compact group to the top of the stretch. Unexpected took the lead in the upper straight but could not resist the late finishing burst of the trio of Willodeen, Blood Song and Transfusion. This triumph by three and three quarters of a length is well deserved for Willodeen who with 17 starts has so far made the most appearances this season.

RACE 7-$350-300,000 CLAIMING (THREE-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1700METRES/8 1/2FURLONGS

Foot Soldier, having won his last two races coming from well off the pace, tried to benefit from a change to front-running tactics. Down in class and made favourite, Ballon D'Or chased comfortably and outstayed Foot Soldier by five lengths, who in turn had eight lengths to spare over third placed Cheers.

RACE 8-$180,000 CLAIMING (THREE-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1000METRES/5FURLONGS ROUND

Princess Brianna, pursued by Laguna Point led comfortably into the straight with the pair well clear of the rest of the field. Laguna Point made steady inroads as Princess Brianna tried to defend the lead and wore her down inside the last 200 metres to win by three parts of a length.

RACE 9-$550-500,000 (THREE-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1000METRES/5FURLONGS STRAIGHT

Course specialist Runjohnny Run was as usual in the front rank early with Toot The Blues, Like A Lady and Tough Cookie. K D Flyer, starting from the most unfavourable post position one, showed improved form to join Runjohnny Run in the last 150 metres and did well under top weight to score by a half a length. Kanaloa was the best fancied starter, ran well on the grandstand side but failed by a half a length to get to the top two.

RACE 10-RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE IV (FIVE-YEAR-OLDS&UP/NW3) 1100METRES/5 1/2FURLONGS

At the end of the first 100 metres it was Union Four and Lady Carmen locked in the early pace ahead of Storming Flyer. The leading pair outpaced the rest of the field to the top of the stretch. Running closely together they came inside the last 200 metres engaged in a punishing duel when Lady Carmen threw up her tail under pressure leaving Union Four in front. Photogenic rounded rivals from 500 metres out and ran on well but failed by a half a length to deny the game effort of 36/1 shot Union Four.
