Rookie racehorse owner/trainer Alford Brown continues to progress when he saddled Saint Michael for his fifth win of the season at Caymanas Park on Saturday.

Brown, who owns the grey gelding in partnership with Earnest Jones, expressed his joy after posting his three-year-old to victory after four starts this season for the progeny of Rising Moon.

“Well, I am very happy for this victory. I give thanks and give God praises as a victory is always good. My friend and I purchased Saint Michael at the Yearling Sale after he called and asked me to find him a decent horse.

“I promised to try and this was the first young horse he is actually owning and he is now elated by the selection and we are very happy, happy individuals.

Saint Michael is on his way but he is not there as yet,” the expectant Brown said.

Brown then spoke about the development of Saint Michael.

“He ( Saint Michael) was a late colt, so we had very little time in trying for the Classics. There are some late three-year-old bloomers and he seems to be one of them, so let us see how it turns out for him,” Brown said.

In his first two races, Saint Michael showed promise but, in his run, with the blinkers removed, he showed little interest.

Returning on Saturday with visors replacing the blinkers and ridden by champion jockey Anthony Thomas, Saint Michael showed a distinct likeness for the straight course and the even-money favourite dismissed his 15 rivals by all of three lengths in a time 1:01.4 in the maiden condition call for Native Bred three-year-olds, who has not yet earned $250,000 lifetime.

Thepowersthatbe, ridden by Bebeto Harvey, finished second as a 4-1 betting option with the 99/1 shot Desrianna finishing third.
