Jaguars make it 10 straight wins WBA Elite League

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Defending champions Granville Jaguars continued their cruise through the Western Basketball Association (WBA) Elite Basketball League (EBL) by winning their 10th straight game on Saturday, spanking Inner-City Avalanche 74-45 in a second-round game at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.

A big third quarter by Granville gave them separation from Inner-City Avalanche as they raced to maximum 20 points while Cornwall Courts Chargers scored their first win, beating latecomers Sav-Elite Titans. Catherine Hall All-Stars managed to just hold off Lucea Flames by two points, 66-64.

Granville's Levar Rose led all scorers with 19 points as they led 12-7 after the first quarter and 26-20 at half-time, before a big third quarter saw them increase the lead to 27 points, 53-26, then cruising to the win.

Andre Hayles also scored 10 points, for Granville Jaguars as Peter Reid grabbed 12 rebounds.

Fabian Julian had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds for Avalanche as Shaqueal Benti scored 15 points and Damian Smith scored 12 points.

Cornwall Courts finally broke their eight-game losing skid by avenging their first-round loss to Sav-Elite Titans, who had double-doubles from Rushane Drummond and Chescardo Grant.

Giovanni Bailey scored 16 points to lead Cornwall Courts Chargers, Adrian Clarke scored 14 points and Franz Clennon had 13 points, while Detroy Jewery had 15 rebounds and Moy Coke grabbed 13 rebounds for the winners.

Drummond scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds for Sav-Elite and Grant scored 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Troy Reid scored 12 points.

Catherine Hall All-Stars were taken to the limit by the ever-improving Lucea Flames, who led by five points, 47-42, going into the final quarter and were up by two points with just over a minute to go in the game.

Catherine Hall led 16-12 after the first quarter and 30-23 at half-time before Lucea flipped the script in the third quarter and took over, surging ahead 47-42 at the end of the period.

Dwayne Johns had a double-double for All-Stars with 10 points and 10 rebounds, but it was Michael Schloss with his 21 points who made the difference. Goyan Malcolm scored 19 points and Jermaine Rerrie grabbed 12 rebounds.

Three players had double-doubles for Lucea — Sheldon Myrie scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds, Sherwin Gilzine scored 15 points and had 17 rebounds, and Jvon Calderon had 10 points and 19 rebounds.
