The three top horses in the land at present — She's A Maneater, Will In Charge and Bigdaddykool — lock horns for the first time in six months in what is expected to be a classical showdown in the $1.3 million Legal Light Trophy feature at Caymanas Park today.

The big three last met in the Superstakes in November over 10 furlongs (2,000m) with the ruthless mare She's A Maneater getting the better of Will In Charge by a short head. Bigdaddykool was some seven lengths adrift in third place. Since then, all three horses have improved and all have cases for themselves and reasons to take home this trophy.

The race is obviously limited to these three as the other two horses in the field of five runners — Superluminal and Houdini's Magic — will be testing some very deep waters here. Superluminal will probably be out for the afternoon stroll, while Houdini's Magic's only job here is to make sure that there is a fast pace for his stable companion Bigdaddykool to run at.

Will In Charge, current Horse of the Year and last year's Diamond Mile winner, carries top weight of 57.0kgs (126 lb); She's A Maneater, former Horse of the Year and 2017 Diamond Mile winner, carries 55.0kgs (121 lb) and Bigdaddykool, winner of the inaugural staging of the Miracle Man Cup, carries 53.0 kgs (117 lb) — the lightest he has been in since December 10, 2016.

The Legal Light Trophy, a Graded Stakes event for three-year-olds and upward over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m), is the fifth event on the 10-race card and will go to post at 2:55 pm. First race is at 12:30 pm.

She's A Maneater was dubbed the 'Wonder Woman' of local racing for her exploit in 2017 where she became the first horse in the history of Caymanas Park to win the Triple Crown, Superstakes and Diamond Mile in the same year. But she had a hectic season last year, losing out to Will In Charge for the most part.

She's A Maneater, who is probably not getting the acclaim she deserves in recent times, is an ultimate warrior. She is versatile and has the uncanny knack of knowing how to win. Even though she ran below par in the Lady Geeta Trophy over 5 furlongs (1,100m) on April 20 where she finished in fourth place behind Another Bullet, Chace The Great and Will In Charge, She's A Maneater will be even more at home over this distance and can turn around her form to beat these without the minimum of fuss. She's A Maneater commands maximum respect here and will be very hard to deny.

After winning the Diamond Mile on December 1, 2018, Will In Charge made his 2019 debut on April 20 over 5 furlongs in the Lady Geeta Trophy. The chestnut horse, although not quite a sprinter, showed that he is still on top of his game and continued his dominance over She's A Maneater when he, again, finished ahead of the mare. Will In Charge should have benefited greatly from that run and being somewhat of a two-turn specialist, is going to be a tough contender here.

Will In Charge won this race last year, beating She's A Maneater by a length. He has improved tremendously since and could well repeat here. Will In Charge's credentials are well known and Robert Halledeen is the perfect partner.

Bigdaddaykool, who is considered a top-class stayer, makes his seasonal debut today. The last time Bigdaddykool was at the races was in December of last year and the Anthony Nunes trainee was a winner then.

With Dane Nelson in the saddle then, Bigdaddykool ran the best race of his life when he defeated She's A Maneater by three parts of a length in the Miracle Man Cup. The only thing that will bother Bigdaddykool here is if he is fit enough to beat She's A Maneater and Will In Charge and that is left to be seen, but he has the class and talent to do so. Bigdaddykool relishes two-turns, but appears to be a difficult horse to ride, requiring very strong hands.

In recent times, She's A Maneater's best time done over this distance is 1:54.3; Will In Charge is 1:54.4 and Bigdaddykool is 1:53.0, but this is a sport of uncertainties and anything can happen.
