They may have contrasting running styles, but one thing Sotomayor, trained by Anthony Nunes, and the Gary Subratie-conditioned Hilly's Halo have in common is that they will both headline their respective Overnight Allowance fields for the Purewater Trophy at Caymanas Park today.

Sotomayor will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing run on last in Division One, while Hilly's Halo will go in search of her fourth-consecutive win in Division Two.

Both races have attracted nine runners each and will venture over the distance of seven furlongs (1,400m) for a $1-million purse. The races are positioned as the third and fourth events on the 10-race card with post times of 1:40 pm and 2:15 pm, respectively. First post is at 12:30 pm.

Coming to this level on last, Sotomayor was expected to figure right away, but the four-year-old grey colt finished in fifth place by 15 lengths going nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) as the even- money (1-1) favourite on July 14.

Secret Traveller was the winner of that race, beating Superluminal and Uncle Taf in a time of 1:58.3.

That race was a much higher calibre event based on the nature of the field, and with this field not possessing that type of quality, Sotomayor should earn his first win at the Overnight Allowance level today.

To test Sotomayor in the race will be stable companion Bruce Wayne along with Biblical Legend, Coralando and the American-bred Saratoga Sight.

Hilly's Halo should also have little problems in putting away her eight rivals. The three-year-old chestnut filly was most impressive in her last three races, improving significantly with each run, and it will be very hard to deny her a fourth win on the trot.

Since breaking the maiden tag on May 26 over six furlongs (1,200m) in 1:13.4, the far-striding American-bred runner never looked back. She went on to win a Restricted Stake event on June 30 over six furlongs (1,200m) in a blistering 1:10.4, and another Restricted Stakes field was again at her mercy on July 28 over six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m) where she won by four lengths in 1:19.2.

Dontae, Dysfunctional and Gary Glitter should all run capital races, but will find Hilly's Halo in their way at the end.

Also of interest on the programme is the O & S Tack Room Trophy, a Restricted Stakes event going six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m). The winner should come from the trio of My Sister, Outrageous Taj and Honey Ryda.
