For many, it was long overdue! For SO we're ecstatic that our British- Rock supermodel, actress, contributing [fashion] editor and fashion influencer Naomi Campbell has, like Rihanna, Beyonc , Kate Moss, Lady Gaga and Iman, been accorded icon status.”It's truly an honour to be recognised by the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) with this year's Fashion Icon Award,” said Campbell in a recent interview with The Guardian newspaper. “Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and am forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers who have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career.”

Campbell will share the spotlight on June 4, at the Brooklyn Museum, New Yok with British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, who will receive the Media Award in honour of Eugenia Sheppard. The award will be presented by Issa Rae.

It is perhaps the words of Diane von Furstenberg, who will receive the Swarovski Award for Positive Change, that aptly describe Campbell. “ From infant prodigy to goddess of fashion, Naomi represents beauty, activism and joie de vivre.” Cheers to that!
