Community bars are as integral to a community as the church pastor, and Main Street, Oracabessa, is home to many. Indeed, from Thursday night through to Sunday the vibes caan done! Welcome to Maxine Hot Spot, where hands-on owner and bartender Maxine Francis 'juggles' orders, engaging regular patrons and welcoming the new. Incredibly, her youthful face belies the fact that she's been in business for 18 years. And, don't get it twisted, she's an astute businesswoman! Monday nights are just as impressive as Thursdays. Posters adorn the walls even as a pool table anchors the space. Spinning R&B, hip-hop and reggae was Red Stripe deejay Chriscarlo 'DJ' Pops-star' Gordon. In between sips of beer and easy camaraderie we contemplated our next stop.
