The James Beard Foundation recently named St Lucian chef Nina Compton as its Best Chef: South. The star chef will be hosting an intimate pop-up dinner at the Skylark Beach Resort in Negril on Saturday, July 28 at 7:00 pm.

Compton will prepare a five-course jerk-themed menu highlighting the versatility of Jamaica's renowned ingredient. Aided by Kingston-born 2016 Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards Chef of the Year and Chopped champion, Andre Fowles, Compton's family-style meal will showcase “inventive preparations of local beef and seafood, house-made pasta, and fresh produce sourced from Rockhouse's organic garden, all prepared with the beloved spice blend”.

Chef Nina Compton is well known in the US — she was a runner-up on Top Chef: New Orleans in 2013 and one of Food & Wine magazine's Best New Chefs in 2017. Her restaurants, Compère Lapin and the newly opened Bywater American Bistro, have been raved about by celebrity chefs and food critics alike.

Chef Andre Fowles worked in the kitchens of Rockhouse and Round Hill Hotel & Villas before becoming executive sous-chef of Miss Lily's in New York City. This September, Miss Lily's is slated to début an outpost at Skylark, where Fowles is helping to lead culinary development.

The dinner, priced at US$200 per person, is inclusive of beverage, tax and gratuity and will benefit the Rockhouse Foundation — the charitable arm of Skylark and Rockhouse Hotel. Over the past 10 years, Rockhouse Foundation has invested US$4 million in the transformation and modernisation of six western Jamaica-based schools, as well as in the complete renovation and expansion of the Negril Community Library.

The one-night-only culinary event is limited to 40 guests and the hotel is offering a special weekend rate for dinner guests of US$95 per night. For reservations and further information, contact bookings@skylarknegril.com.
