Last Friday, Under the Dryer (UTD) visited wigologist and award-winning hairstylist Kadie-Ann Brown to witness a few “wigovers”. Since her makeover for Internet sensation Ladaisha “Mackerel” Francis, Brown capitalised on the positive feedback and has not looked back. Indeed she's brought along make-up artist Ashleigh Porter from Ash Beauty Studio. 7th Avenue Plaza office manager Donna Newell and hairstylist Shannon Bailey were their subjects for the UTD visit.

Brown embraces a good wig, loves the versatility they afford the wearer, and relishes the opportunity to make customers smile, or in Newell's case, cry. The 7th Avenue Plaza office manager — a first-time wiggie who's never even had her make-up done — was in tears after her reveal.

Some women shy away from wigs as they find them to be too superficial; not Brown. She informed UTD that due to complaints about weak roots, damaged or split ends, her clients are often forced to get wiggy with it.

Brown entered and won the JNSBL Barber and Beauty Competition in March 2017. But she won't disclose trade secrets. “KFC doesn't share its secret seasoning, so why should I?” Brown asserted. She did, however, conduct a demo and revealed a few of her trusty products, like the silk therapy lotion and göt2b glued blasting Freeze Spray, used to moisturise and hold the newly installed wig in place.

After a few cane rows, secured by sheer netting and glue, both ladies were ready for their installations. Make-up techniques and products go hand-in-hand with installing a wig. Wig nets are dabbed with foundation and a blush brush to match the skin tone. Blending thereafter gives a natural look and feel.

For hairstylist Shannon Bailey, the red ombréd wig was a pleasant surprise. She was, however, more fond of her make-up transformation. Both ladies had their make-up done by popular make-up artist Ashleigh Porter of Ash Beauty Studio, who gave them a soft glam that would prove to outlast girls' night out later that evening. UTD goes behind the scenes.
