ON Saturday, February 16, Olympian Asafa Powell wed his longtime girlfriend model Alyshia Miller at the Rose Hall Great House in the second city. Make-up artist Nicole Blake of Brushed by Nicole fame, who's been the go-to make-up artist for several local celebs, handled the beauty beat. Indeed, Miller booked Blake a year in advance. A simple wash-and-go would suffice for the naturally curly-haired bride, whose best friend and maid-of-honour Eva Bradford pulled her hair back into a messy ponytail and used a diamond-encrusted headband to hold it all together. From the Yves Saint Laurent Souffle D'Eclat Loose Powder foundation to the Ben Nye Final Seal Matte Makeup Sealer Spray that completed the look, Under the Dryer (UTD) got full coverage!

Straight from Blake's Instagram page:

“Thank you for choosing me to be a part of your special day, it's been a longtime coming … we didn't even get to do a bridal trial, because of Alyshia's schedule and mine. Congratulations Alyshia and Asafa, May God bless your union!

Miller's take:

“Nicole had done my make-up for my birthday the previous year and I absolutely loved her work. I knew instantly she'd be doing my make-up on my wedding day. We never had a chance to do a trial, most brides would be nervous but I trusted in her talent. She executed effortlessly. I told her I wanted a natural look and glow, which was exactly what I got and more. I remember telling Nicole this is the make-up inspiration but I want her to make it her own. I'd like to say a big thank you to Nicole for staying with me the entire day and night to ensure I was flawless.”

These are Blake's steps:

Skin Prep

1 Cleanse skin thoroughly with facial wipes.

2 Moisturise with Kiehl's Creme d'Elegance Repairateur.

3 Hydrate the skin with Chanel Hydra Beauty Essence Mist.

4 Apply Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector on the areas of the skin that tend to get oily.

5 Match foundation shade from the neck up to the jawline with Bobbi Brown's Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation in Golden Honey.

6 Apply foundation by gently pressing into the skin with a damp Original Beauty Blender.

7 Blend, blend, blend for an even finish.

8 Dab Tarte Shape Tape concealer in Medium Tan Golden under the eyes in a triangular shape — ensure that the concealer is two shades lighter than the skin tone. Apply across the forehead and down the bridge of the nose.

9 Blend, blend, blend with the Original Beauty Blender.

10 Set all concealed areas with Yves Saint Laurent Souffle D'Eclat Loose Powder, 02 with an elf Blush Brush, then use a blush brush to press the powder into the skin.

11 Using a powder brush, set the face with the RCMA No-Color Translucent Powder.

12 Use a coloured setting powder to dissolve the RCMA Translucent Powder.

Blake's TIP: I mixed MAC Cosmetics Mineralized Skinfinish in Dark and IMAN Cosmetics Luxury Pressed Powder in Light Sand Medium.

13 Use a bronzer two shades darker than the foundation shade on areas of the face you would like to appear smaller, such as the forehead, cheeks, along the nose bridge, and under the neck.

Blake's TIP: I used two bronzers from the Covergirl Queen Collection in Light Bronze and Brown Bronze. I also mixed it with a little MAC Cosmetics blush in Blunt.

14 Apply MAC Cosmetics Indianwood Pro Longwear Paint Pot primer all over the lid and brow bone. Dab on NARS Cosmetics Night Star Eyeshadow to set the brow bone.

15 In the creases of the eyes, dab makeup geek eyeshadow in Cocoa Bear and the same shades used to contour the face.

16 Apply Artist Couture's Diamond Glow powder Conceited on the lids.

17 Apply MAC Cosmetics Lip Liner pencil in Chestnut along the water line. Use a bit of Artist Couture's Diamond Glow powder in Conceited to smoke that out.

18 To finish the look for the eyes, apply a pair of Cuckoo 100% Siberian Mink lashes.

Blush and Highlight

19 Lightly blush the cheeks with the Tom Ford Wicked shade for a rosy effect.

20 To highlight, reapply the same shimmer used on the lids — Artist Couture Diamond Glow Powder, Conceited.

Lip Colour

21 Line the lips with MAC Cosmetics Lip Pencil in Cork, followed by Yves Saint Laurent's Rouge Pur Couture Engravable Lipstick.

Blake's TIP: To pull the entire look together I used my Ben Nye Final Seal Matte Makeup Sealer Spray to set the face.
