Your skin is your best accessory, so why not put it in the hands of specialists? Cue: industrial chemist Marilyn Lee and lab technician Joy Falconer. The two long-time friends — who met in the laboratories of Alumina Partners of Jamaica (Alpart) in the early 80s — are co-principals of Bare Natural Artisan Products, a skincare brand providing natural products that are good for the skin.

The desire to provide these products was birthed from Lee's need to protect her grandson's skin from harmful chemicals. “When I took my grandson to the doctor for his eczema and was told that the only remedy would be steroid creams, I did my research and discovered that the culprit for many diseases is commercial skin care,” she told Under the Dryer (UTD). She created her own organic concotion that worked wonders on his skin. “Once my grandson recovered, I shared the remedy with friends and family and as the demand grew, it gave birth to a business in 2015,” Lee continued. With years of experience in transforming raw materials into useful products, Lee and Falconer are far from neophytes and consider their venture less of a business and more of a sharing of their lifestyles.

The skin is the largest organ of the body and whatever is applied to it will eventually be absorbed into the bloodstream. As such, people need to be mindful of what they put on it, says Lee. With this in mind, Bare Natural Artisan Products soaps are hand-crafted and made from vegetable, fruit- and nut-based oils and butters. Treat your skin to the spicy smoothness of the Bare Vanilla Nutmeg or luxuriate in the rehydrating lather of Bare Neem Mint, two of the establishment's best sellers. All soaps maintain nourishing glycerin which many commercial manufacturers remove. Tonics, scrubs, serums and body butters are made from herbs grown organically in Lee's home garden, and from her son's farm in Ocho Rios. Bare Natural does not promise flawless skin but rather a healthy way to clean, detox and nourish the skin.
