MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Police here have released the identity of a man who was alleged fatally shot during a confrontation in Kingsland yesterday.
He is 59-year-old Denzil Baker of Carisbrook in St Elizabeth.
Acting head of the Manchester police Deputy Superintendent Lloyd Darby told OBSERVER ONLINE that about 4:15 am the police were on an operation in the community.
“Police were on operation targeting a syndicate of people who were committing break-in offences and our intelligence is that they were in possession of firearms,” he said.
DSP Darby said Baker was at one of the targeted locations, when he allegedly ran out of a house and attacked the police with a machete.
He was shot and taken to the Mandeville Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Three people were arrested at the location in Kingsland and a fourth person arrested in Mandeville.
DSP Darby said a washing machine, which was reported stolen from a house in Swaby's Hope, was recovered during the raids.
No firearms were seized during the operation.
